An automotive electrical system consists of three main core components—the battery, starter motor, and alternator—which work together to generate, store, and distribute electrical energy. It is supported by a network of wiring harnesses, fuses, relays, and sensors that power the ignition, fuel injection, lighting, and entertainment systems
Core Components
Battery: The primary energy source (12V) that powers the vehicle when the engine is off and provides the necessary surge to start the engine.
Alternator: Produces electricity when the engine is running to operate the electrical systems and recharge the battery.
Starter Motor: Converts electrical energy from the battery into mechanical energy to turn the engine over (crank) for ignition.
Supporting System Components
Wiring/Wiring Harnesses: A complex network of cables that transmit electrical power and signals throughout the vehicle.
Fuses & Relays: Act as safety features that prevent electrical overloads and protect components.
Voltage Regulator: Ensures a constant voltage level from the alternator.
